Volkswagen Game Day 2013 Commercial | Get In. Get Happy.

This 60-second video advertises the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle and first played during the 2013 Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens.

It is another day in corporate America and as the employees shuffle into the crowded elevator, two of them complain about life.

But this is no ordinary life. A fellow employee has driven to work in his brand new fire engine red 2013 Volkswagen Beetle and he is all smiles. As a matter of fact, it not only affects his attitude but his accent. Though he hails from Minnesota, his accent is entirely Jamaican.

People stare at him in disbelief as he effuses happiness, warmth and a smile. Whether it is a fellow employee pounding the vending machine in frustration, a weary coworker trudging past him pushing a cart, a colleague staring down into her paperwork or a dismal forecast in a staff meeting, he looks to cheer up everyone around him.

One can only imagine what would have happened to people who called him and he answered that way.

And Volkswagen is able to put up its tagline, “Get In. Get Happy.” A very memorable commercial and one that can put a smile on anyone’s face. This will surely be remembered.

This ad was criticized in various racist-sensitive circles but this blog post eloquently and neatly refutes that line of thinking.
